Alexandra Harrell, otherwise known as Bones, is a self taught artist born and raised in California. Their mediums of choice are predominately oil paint, ink and charcoal. They often create dramatic, surrealist self portraits. Bones is heavily inspired by how they are feeling mentally and physically. Some of Bones’ art brings awareness to their struggle with mental illness and chronic pain.
StatementI have used art as a personal outlet for my emotions since I was a child. Painting is an emotional process for me and a way to visualize my internal feelings and thoughts. Though I may be feeling one way when I create my pieces, I leave my art open to interpretation as everyone experiences and relates to art differently. When it comes down to it, no matter what race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, weight, or class you are, in the end, we are all just bones.
Always remember that the reason that you initially started working was that there was something inside yourself that you felt that if you could manifest it in some way you would understand more about yourself and how you co-exist with the rest of society…David Bowie.
