Replica of the ubiquitous mom and pop record store in many black communities/neighborhoods. Chick's Record Store, founded by Vernon "Chick" Shirley after WWII, is a jazz music store featuring live music and a piano jazz playing during business hours. The space is sparse, dated, very little inventory, but a loving, familiar fixture of a bygone neighborhood institution that celebrates black community and the presence of jazz music and black musicians in the community.
