Kambrya Bailey

Kambrya Bailey is a California based artist. She is a believer, a mother, daughter, sister and friend. She was born and raised in Southern California and currently resides in the Central Valley. Even though she is a novice to the professional art scene, she has been an artist by trade and passion for the majority of her life. From crafting with crayons on napkins to printing her illustrations on t- shirts in High School, Kambrya’s relationship with art grew from a hobby and developed into a blooming passion. Her upbringing as a believer heavily influenced her being able to pursue her passions and explore her artistic nature at a young age. Her parents believed that they ought to raise their children with love and encourage them to pursue the gifts that God has given them. As an artist she believes that because God has given her this gift, she is meant to use her practice to glorify him and to serve others. By visualizing the language of the heart and mind as it relates to spiritual truth, she brings us into her eclectic vibrancy that comes from having a personal relationship with Christ.

Some artists who have influenced and inspired Bailey are Wassily Kandinsky, Caroline Denervaud and Mary Magdelena Campos-Pons. She admires Denervaud and Kandinsky for intrinsic use of color and form. She is also inspired by how Campos-Pon’s effortlessly infuses her cultural identity into her photos, sculptures and paintings and uses her artwork as an avenue for storytelling.

In this season of her work, Bailey is exploring surrealism and abstraction through painting, mixed media work and digital design. The media she predominantly works with are ink, acrylic, oil, canvas, paper, felt, yarn and gold varnish. Among paintings, collages and digital portraits, Kambrya also explores photography, sculpture, jewelry making and weaving. Bailey seeks to use her practice as a means to express and share intimacy with herself and her audience, be it physically, emotionally and spiritually. She hopes her creations connect and resonate with an audience ready and willing to garner and explore a deeper connection with God, themselves and their understanding of the world

Statement

Art is a ministry. As an artist, I use my work to abstract themes of spirituality, religion, nostalgia, heritage, intimacy, grief and love. I am inspired by the gospel, jazz music, rich colors, and organic forms . My collection of pieces serves as a tangible diary of the aforementioned; visualizations of my soul singing one song in many notes, a cacophony of divine design. For what am I if not noise, frequency condensed into something physical, mystical and true; something textured, jewel toned and protected. My work is more me than I am myself, this is the world and otherworldly through the eyes God has gifted me; allow me to let you in.
